DVB-T2 set-top boxes support high efficiency video coding

Shenzhen Skyworth Digital Technology, a global provider of smart home solutions, has launched its new range of DVB-T2 High Efficiency Video Coding (HEVC) solutions which supports a variety of features and offers operators a new generation of future-proof terrestrial receivers.

HEVC – the new video compression standard and successor of the current H.264/MPEG-4 AVC standard – is able to either obtain a much better image quality with the same bit rate or achieve higher data compression while maintaining image quality by halving the file size. As a new standard that allows for better compression, HEVC guarantees that boxes deployed today will work on the systems of tomorrow.

Skyworth’s solution provides end-users with an advanced and inexpensive way to access the new channels enabled by the network immediately.

“Germany is taking the lead in migrating from DVB-T to DVB-T2 with HEVC and other countries are expected to follow,” said Angélique Boissy, VP Global Sales at Skyworth Digital. “With Germany making this commitment to the DVB-T2/HEVC network and enabling HD on DTT in the country for the first time, this is the perfect time to make our solution available.”

In addition to focusing on the terrestrial market, this new series of receivers will also be available with a number of conditional access platforms and middleware options. The DVB-T2 HEVC solutions feature internet access for streaming content and USB-PVR for recording.
