SanDisk acquires Fusion-io
SanDisk has acquired Fusion-io in a $1.1 billion cash deal, expanding its solid-state drive line that supports the PCI Express (PCIe) interconnect.
The move also strengths its enterprise storage product portfolio, which includes SAS and SATA drives.
Fusion-io had struggled with losses since its initial public offering in 2011, but SanDisk has bought the company to bolster its lineup of storage products.
“Fusion-io will accelerate our efforts to enable the flash-transformed data center, helping companies better manage increasingly heavy data workloads at a lower total cost of ownership,” said Sanjay Mehrotra, SanDisk president and CEO. “Customers will benefit from the addition of Fusion-io’s leading PCIe solutions to SanDisk’s vertically integrated business model."
The deal follows a trend toward vertical integration in the storage market, with chip-makers buying smaller companies with specialized technology.
