This short course introduces key aspects of RF and wireless transceiver architectures such as the superheterodyne (or superhet) transceiver. This is followed by discussion of a more advanced offset phase-locked loop architecture, which reduces part count and costs and is more suited to multi-band radios. We also review key RF features of modern transceiver chipsets for GSM/EDGE/UMTS and LTE/3G MIMO applications.
