DesignSpark Mechanical Version 2 launched

RS Components has launched the next version of its DesignSpark Mechanical package. This new version 2 offers significant advances over the already successful version 1 offering.

With over 160 000 active users, and over 400 000 downloads, RS Components has taken further steps to further improve the usability. Typically it is found that new users only need to invest the half an hour to get up to speed with its use. Although very easy to use RS has wanted to further improve its usability and enable those who have downloaded the programme but not used it yet to be able to have an even easier entry point into using it regularly.

There have been a number of areas where the package has been significantly improved:

  • Improved 3D model library with direct 3D insertion where the library can be searched and the models can then be dragged and dropped into the design.

  • Embedded video tutorials to enable key functions to be explained. This enables users to quickly understand commonly used functions.

  • Embedded reference designs that enable designs to be started very easily.

  • Improved part number handling in terms of importing IDF files.

  • Direct interface from / to DesignSpark PCB V7

  • Improved BOM quote capabilities, checking price, stock, and availability from within the tool.

  • Access to data sheets. Although this appears a basic requirement, this has required considerable investment in time for it to operate effectively. It is a feature that few other tools offer.

The tool uses direct modelling with these improvements has enabled prototypes to be designed and when changes are made it enables the impact of changes to be accounted for in the overall design very easily. This has the effect of enabling considerable amounts of time in the design and development stage by enabling changes in prototyping to be made easily and quickly. Effectively this can be said to be “Rapid prototyping made easy.”
