Optimus & Jasper Wireless Power M2M in Portugal

Connected devices platform provider Jasper Wireless and Portuguese mobile network operator, Optimus are now working together to wirelessly connect machine-to-machine, M2M, and consumer electronics devices across Portugal.

The M2M market is seen as a major driver for wireless connectivity for the future. While many predictions have been made for many billlions of connected devices, Jasper is focussing on the cellular based systems as these provide ubiquitous coverage and connectivity. Within this market area, the market is still seen as very large and growing as device process fall.

There are many areas in which M2M is currently being used. Smart metering for utilities, connected consumer devices such as e-readers, navigational devices, photo-frames and cameras are just a few examples of growing markets. Then the automotive industry is seeing large growth as car manufacturers want to leverage the revenue opportunities of the electronics and connectivity already installed in automobiles.

In this agreement, Jasper Wireless will provide the platform to Optimus with the applications and the services necessary to accelerate market entry of new categories of connected devices on its network. It will also enable them to profitably connect and manage a range of embedded wireless devices.

“Portugal has a strong telecom market with a vibrant mobile sector and a growing broadband customer base,” said Manuel Eanes, executive director at Optimus. “By adding M2M functionality to our offering we are able to service a wider range of customers in a quickly developing market landscape. As a result of this partnership, we can bring devices to market more efficiently and effectively than ever before.”

“Leading operators like Optimus have identified the growth that M2M markets can provide. Jasper Wireless has developed a complete service platform with the applications required to build, deploy and manage connected devices with the lowest total cost of operations which will enable Optimus to deploy their connected devices profitably and at scale,” said Cindy Patterson, executive vice president, worldwide sales, Jasper Wireless.
