O2 Apologises for Revealing Users Numbers

Mobile phone company O2 has apologised to its customers for a technical problem that lead to the possibility of users' phone numbers to be disclosed when using its mobile data.

The issue was raised on 24 January when it was discovered that numbers could appear on websites. The problem which arose as a result of routine maintenance issues meant that from 10 January 2012 numbers could be seen by other websites.

O2 has stated that it normally only passed numbers to "trusted partners". However a system administrator for a mobile gaming company, saw the issue and flagged it on 24th.
