TransferJet Protocol Conversion Layer, PCL

The TransferJet Protocol Conversion Layer, PCL acts as Layer 5 within the OSI layer model.

As such the PCL provides the control functions for the basic communications with the upper layers and also the adapter functionality required to interface with the lower CNL.

The TransferJet Protocol Conversion Layer, PCL is an essential layer within the overall stack providing essential functions to the operation of the system.

The PCL layer is responsible for converting the existing interface standards of an application and the native TransferJet protocols so that the two can communicate.


TransferJet PCL major elements

There are a number of main elements within the Protocol Conversion Layer. These include the Protocol Conversion Layer Controller.

Another major element is the OBEX application.

Both of these elements are covered in more detail below.

PCL OBEX application

The PCL controller, as the name implies is used for control. It offers common services including initialisation, and basic communications including setup, device authentication, and then connection release. These are required by the upper application layer or layers.


PCL OBEX application

The PCL OBEX is a form of PCL adapter. It handles the transparent user data transmission to the PCL OBEX in the other device with whom communication has been set up.

Only one connection is supported by the PCL OBEX and only the PCL OBEX protocol is the allowable upper layer user.

The TransferJet PCL OBEX itself has elements, namely the OBEX Server and the OBEX Client. They have the same service and function to the user, but are designated differently dependent upon which device they are in.
